Brisbane Lions West is thrilled to run the second Poolwerx Moggill Marathon, a running event like no other! Our aim for this event is more than just promoting physical well-being – we want to create an inclusive environment where all participants, regardless of their background, feel valued and celebrated.
Scheduled for Sunday 21st May 2023, the Moggill Marathon is designed to bring communities together in a fun, engaging and friendly rural setting. Runners of all abilities are encouraged to join us, from first-timers to seasoned athletes. What’s more, we’ve got some amazing prizes on offer that will motivate everyone to push themselves to their limits.
The event will feature several race categories (full marathon pending in future), including a half marathon, a 10K, a 5K and 2km fun run. The half marathon will start at 6:30am, followed by the 10K at 7:00 am, and the 5K at 8:00am am and finishing with the 2km fun run a 8:30am. All races will start at the top of Kangaroo Gully Road and finish at Westaway Park.
Runners from last year said “It was amazing for the community, lots of fun and good vibes” and “fun local, challenging courses. Well timed in the lead up to the Brisbane and Gold Coast Marathons as Moggill is a great warm up and part of training. I liked that it’s a half marathon” and they “loved the location, the friendly atmosphere, the amount of water stations, everything!”.
But this event is not only about the runners. We are also proud to announce that funds raised from the Moggill Marathon will go towards supporting Bravery Box, a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing support to children undergoing treatment for cancer. Furthermore, we will also be donating a portion of the funds raised to local community groups in the area. We believe in giving back to the community.
We must also acknowledge that the week of the 15th is also National Volunteer Week, and the event couldn’t happen without our fantastic Moggill SES team who will again be marshalling the event, ensuring the safety of all participants. We also have a wonderful team of volunteers on board to support the event, work with the SES, and make it a success. We must call out and thank all the wonderful local support that has gone into making this event possible.
The Moggill Marathon is set to be an exciting event, with a course that is scenic, challenging, and perfect for runners of all skill levels. We are confident that this event will be a success, bringing together people from all walks of life to celebrate fitness, health, and fun.
So, mark your calendars for Sunday 21 May 2023 and get your running shoes ready! We look forward to seeing you all there, and together, we will make the Moggill Marathon one of the most memorable events of the year.
