Press Release – Final 2024 Update

The Lions Club of Brisbane West is thrilled to present the third edition of the Poolwerx Moggill Marathon, a running event like no other! This year featuring the full 42.2 km Marathon for the very first time and it’s not for the faint hearted or inexperienced marathon runner.  With the hilly terrain it will be a challenge and the fastest male and female runners will have their names inscribed on the Ember Schoeman Shield, named after the two hardy souls who ran a marathon distance around Moggill during the covid lockdown birthing the idea that this was possible!

Our aim for this event is more than just promoting physical well-being – we want to create an inclusive environment where all participants, regardless of their background, feel valued and celebrated. Scheduled for Sunday 19st May 2024, the Poolwerx Moggill Marathon is designed to bring communities together in a fun, engaging and friendly rural setting. Runners of all abilities are encouraged to join us, from first-timers to seasoned athletes.

The event will feature several race categories , the Poolwerx Moggill Marathon, The Heritage Bank Karalee Road to Rural half marathon, The Athletes Foot New Balance Mt Moggill 10K, The Local Bulletin Challenge 5K and the Moggill Discount Drug Store 2km fun run. The marathon will start at 6am, the half marathon at 6:30am, followed by the 10K at 7:00 am, and the 5K at 8:00am am and finishing with the 2km fun run at 8:30am. All races will start at the top of Kangaroo Gully Road and finish at Westaway Park.

Runners from last year said “It was amazing for the community, lots of fun and good vibes” and “fun local, challenging courses. Well timed in the lead up to the Brisbane and Gold Coast Marathons as Moggill is a great warm up and part of training. They “loved the location, the friendly atmosphere, the amount of water stations, everything!”, additionally citing it’s a “very friendly, well organised, excellent staff and volunteers, nice course and all-round beautiful morning”, plus “AMAZING volunteers!”.

We were fortunate to have a celebrity running the course last year, comedian, and half marathon finisher, Ross Noble, said “this is a fantastic find, a great community event and I love the challenging nature of the course, I’d definitely come back again.”

Lions Brisbane West are also proud to announce funds raised from the Moggill Marathon will go towards supporting Bravery Box, a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing support to children undergoing treatment for cancer. Furthermore, we will also be donating a portion of the funds raised to local community groups in the area.

We must also acknowledge that the week of the 19th is also National Volunteer Week, and the event couldn’t happen without our fantastic Moggill SES team who will again be marshalling the event, ensuring the safety of all participants. We also have a wonderful team of volunteers on board to support the event, work with the SES, and make it a success. We must call out and thank all the wonderful local support that has gone into making this event possible.

The Poolwerx Moggill Marathon is set to be an exciting event, with a course that is scenic, challenging, and perfect for runners of all skill levels. We are confident that this event will be a success, bringing together people from all walks of life to celebrate fitness, health, and fun. So, mark your calendars for Sunday 19 May 2023 and get your running shoes ready! We look forward to seeing you all there, and together, we will make the Moggill Marathon one of the most memorable events of the year.
