We are thrilled to announce that our event is returning for its third year on Sunday 19th May. We wanted to share an update on progress and information for runners, walkers and local residents in preparation for the day.
We continue to build improvements into the event and action feedback received from runners, sponsors, residents, and community groups to make enhancements and provide the best possible experience for everyone.
Road Closures
Our primary goal is to ensure minimal impact on the local community, while providing an incredible event for runners and spectators alike.
With just under three months to go, we want to send a reminder and offer some clarity for the local community that there will be NO full road closures during the event. Residents will be able to leave their properties, we just ask that they exercise caution for runners, and where necessary, follow the instructions from traffic controllers. Only minor delays of a few minutes could be expected, if any.
Professional traffic management and the Moggill SES will be managing the event. QPS and QAS will be in attendance and the event is approved by Brisbane City Council.
We ask you share this message within your networks to help ensure clarity on guidance for residents, and for those new to the area.
More communication will be sent out closer to the event and a letterbox drop will occur to streets on the routes early May 2024.
Support for Our Community
Last year we raised an incredible $22,000 for our main beneficiary Bravery Box, supporting teens and children through cancer, as well as local schools, community groups and organisations. Details can be found here – Poolwerx Moggill Marathon 2023: A Resounding Success Benefiting the Community – Moggill Marathon
This year’s event will be a great opportunity for West Brisbane to come together as a community and cheer on the dedicated runners taking part in the event. This year we introduce the full Moggill Marathon of 42.2k, so get out and see some excellent athletes take on this challenge. With the stunning scenery of Moggill as a backdrop, we are sure that everyone will have a great time.
2024 Improvements
We have focussed on introducing additional improvements this year, including:
- Extending discounted registrations and freezing our 2023 prices. With the cost-of-living crisis creating a pinch, take advantage of our reduced entry prices to get active and achieve a goal at a great price (early bird ends March 31st).
- Introducing the full marathon. With our team’s experience of running the whole event we introduce the fifth race, and most challenging for seasoned runners and elite athletes.
- Establishing local schools as ‘fundraising organisations’, so schools (and community clubs if they wish) can fundraise for themselves, encouraging activity and participation for children and their families.
- Continue to review and improve our approach to volunteer recruitment, guidance and course marking and marshalling.
Fundraising
The Poolwerx Moggill Marathon is a charity event, the main beneficiary again this year is Bravery Box, supporting children and teens undergoing cancer treatment. Any funds raised from the event will be given back to beneficiaries which include Bravery Box and local community groups.
Our purpose to foster community connection through an active and healthy lifestyle and have a lot of fun doing so!
Save the date, from 6.00am to 11.00am on Sunday 19th May 2024, either run, walk or volunteer, or just come along to cheer on the runners and join in the festivities of the Poolwerx Moggill Marathon!
