On behalf of the Lions Club of Brisbane West, we are delighted to share the funds raised from the Heritage Bank Moggill Marathon 2026 and celebrate another incredible year for our community.
Sunday 17 May marked a special milestone, as we celebrated the 5-year anniversary of the Moggill Marathon. What started as a simple idea to bring people together through running has grown into one of Brisbane’s most unique community sporting events, bringing together runners, walkers, families, volunteers, schools, local businesses and community organisations.
This year’s event once again showcased everything that makes our community special, determination, generosity, connection and plenty of fun along the way.
The Heritage Bank Moggill Marathon continues to be proudly community-driven and not-for-profit. Thanks to the collective efforts of our participants, sponsors, volunteers and supporters, the 2026 event raised an outstanding $38,410, which will be donated to Bravery Box, charities selected by our Champion of Champions winners, local schools, community groups and their ongoing community initiatives.
This latest contribution brings the total raised by the Moggill Marathon to more than $160,000 since the event began, supporting charities, schools, community groups and local initiatives that make a genuine difference.
From a small local idea in 2020 to a recognised Brisbane community event, the Moggill Marathon has continued to grow because of the generosity, passion and commitment of everyone involved.
Continuing to invest in a safe and memorable event
As the Heritage Bank Moggill Marathon continues to grow, we remain committed to delivering an event our community can be proud of.
While this year’s fundraising result was lower than our exceptional 2025 outcome, it represents our second-highest contribution ever and exceeded our 2024 fundraising result.
We believe in being transparent with our community. As the event has grown, so has the level of planning and support required to deliver it safely. This year we invested further in the people, services and infrastructure needed to provide the best possible experience for everyone involved.
Like many community organisations, we have also experienced increasing costs across suppliers and services. In addition, 2025 represented an exceptional year of sponsorship support, making it an extraordinary fundraising result for the event.
These decisions were made based on feedback from previous years and our commitment to continually improving the event, ensuring we provide a safe, enjoyable and memorable experience for our runners, sponsors, volunteers and the wider community.
Most importantly, thanks to everyone involved, the event still delivered an incredible community outcome and continues to make a meaningful difference.
Allocation of funds and beneficiaries
Bravery Box – $20,060
We are incredibly proud to continue supporting Bravery Box as our major beneficiary, helping children, teens and families facing cancer.
A huge thank you to our runners and walkers, whose generous donations contributed $3,560 directly towards Bravery Box.
The Heritage Bank Moggill Marathon contributed a further $11,000 from event proceeds.
The Hatch Champion of Champions initiative contributed an additional $5,500 to Bravery Box on behalf of our 2026 event winners.
Combined, these contributions delivered a total donation of $20,060 to Bravery Box, continuing our proud partnership and support for families facing childhood cancer.
Hatch Champion of Champions
This year we were also excited to introduce the Hatch Champion of Champions, a special initiative created to celebrate the 5-year anniversary of the Moggill Marathon, recognise our past winners and create an even greater community impact.
Hatch, an engineering and professional services firm, was inspired by great people doing great things through the marathon and proudly collaborated with our team to bring the initiative to life.
Through Hatch’s support, a $500 donation was allocated to each male and female winner across all race distances. Returning champions who reclaimed their titles were invited to nominate a charity of their choice.
Our returning champions each directed a $500 donation towards a cause close to their hearts:
- Down Syndrome & Intellectual Disability Queensland — selected by Kieran O’Brien
- Cure Brain Cancer Foundation — selected by John Samuel Fothergill
- Starlight Children’s Foundation — selected by Liam Woollett
- Cure Brain Cancer Foundation — selected by Lauren Brown
- The Smith Family — selected by Jane Hoskin
The remaining Champion of Champions donations were contributed to Bravery Box on behalf of our 2026 event winners, providing an additional $5,500 to support children, teens and families facing cancer.
More than a celebration of athletic achievement, the Champion of Champions initiative highlights the power of sport to give back and create a positive impact beyond the finish line.

We were also proud to continue celebrating school participation and community spirit through our school awards.
Moggill State School won the Pullenvale Ward Office 5k Schools Team Award as part of The Local Bulletin 5k, recognising the school with the strongest team participation.
Kenmore South State School claimed the McAllister Community Spirit Shield as part of the Moggill Discount Drug Store 2k, celebrating outstanding school participation and earning their place in Moggill Marathon history with their name etched onto the shield.
Additional funds were also raised directly by participants supporting their nominated schools, further increasing the impact delivered back into our local community.
These funds will help support education, youth development, emergency services, community connection, inclusion, environmental projects and the incredible volunteer groups who make our local area such a wonderful place to live.
The funds raised by the Heritage Bank Moggill Marathon will make a real difference, supporting families of children undergoing cancer treatment, important charities, and the local organisations that strengthen and connect our community.
