The Heritage Bank Moggill Marathon returns this May, marking a significant milestone as the event celebrates five years of running, community and impact.
What began as a local initiative has grown into a much loved, community driven event on the Brisbane running calendar. Each year has seen more runners, volunteers and local businesses come together, building something that is as much about connection and community as it is about the race itself.
In 2026, that momentum continues, with around 1,500 participants expected across all distances.
Our key priority remains delivering a high quality event while minimising disruption to local residents. There will be no full road closures, with traffic managed by professional controllers, supported by SES volunteers and Queensland Police. Residents will continue to have access to their properties, with only minor and short delays expected, and we appreciate the community’s patience and support on the day. Participants are encouraged to carpool, walk or consider public transport options to help reduce congestion.
At the heart of the event is its commitment to giving back. Over the past five years, the Heritage Bank Moggill Marathon has raised more than $125,000 for Bravery Box and local community groups, helping make a meaningful difference for families in need. That community focus continues to underpin everything the event stands for.
This year also marks an important step forward in the event’s partnerships. Heritage Bank joins as Major Sponsor and naming rights partner for the first time, reflecting the continued growth and recognition of the Heritage Bank Moggill Marathon within the community.
To mark the five year anniversary, two key initiatives will feature on race day. The Hatch Champion of Champions Half Marathon brings together past winners and new contenders, adding a competitive edge while also linking performance to a broader community impact. Through this initiative, winners across the major distances will be connected to a community donation, reinforcing the event’s purpose beyond the finish line.
Alongside this, the People’s Champion, supported by Moggill Discount Drug Store, recognises runners who improve on their previous performances. It is a celebration of personal progress and participation, with prizes and recognition for those who achieve their own milestones, not just podium finishes.
Prize incentives continue across all distances, with cash prizes awarded in the Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km events, along with perpetual recognition through the Ember Schoeman Shield for marathon winners.
Community participation is also rewarded, with a $500 prize for the largest team in the 5km event, a $250 prize and shield recognition for the leading primary school in the 2km, and a prize for best fancy dress on the day.
Behind the scenes, a number of improvements have been made to enhance the runner experience. The finish area will include a dedicated finishers chute, improving safety, flow and recovery for participants as they cross the line. These changes, along with refinements to signage and runner movement, are designed to create a smoother and more enjoyable race day.
The event precinct on the corner of Westaway Park will again provide a focal point for the day, with local businesses, food vendors and community groups contributing to a welcoming and energetic atmosphere. Additional entertainment and support along the course will further enhance the experience for both runners and spectators. To celebrate the five year milestone, limited anniversary merchandise will also be available, including reflective event shirts designed for both visibility and style.

Volunteers continue to play a vital role in delivering the Heritage Bank Moggill Marathon, with opportunities available across course marshalling, water stations and the finish precinct. Community members interested in getting involved are encouraged to register via hello@moggillmarathon.com.au.
There is plenty of anticipation around the School Competition, with local schools competing for the McAllister Community Spirit Shield for the highest participation in the Moggill Discount Drug Store 2k Fun Run. Will Pullenvale State School hold onto their crown, and can Moggill State School retain their status as champions of the Local Bulletin 5k. The competition is set to be strong.
